My research interest is in the biogeochemistry of aquatic ecosystems and my projects have included studies on stream, wetland, and estuarine systems as well as geothermal hot springs. My current research is focused on techniques for determining the bioavailable fraction of dissolved metals in wetland and riparian/stream environments. I am also conducting studies on the efficacy and sustainability of a constructed wetland designed to remove metal contaminants in industrial wastewater. Through collaborations, I am also investigating the accumulation and trophic transfer of Hg and PCBs in shore birds and sharks in coastal Georgia.
