River Ecology Laboratory, Drawer E, Aiken, South Carolina 29802, USA Summary: Gastrophryne carolinensis are toxic to many predators, which will often refuse to eat them, and few firsthand accounts of G. carolinensis predation exist, possibly because of this toxicity . . . to our knowledge, this is the first confirmed firsthand observation of a Thamnophis s. sauritus depredating a G. carolinensis.
