Susceptibility and Resistance of Mosquito Fish to Several Insecticides

Claude E. Boyd and Denzel E. Ferguson

Abstract

Approximate LD50 values for DDD, endrin, aldrin, dieldrin, toxaphene, heptachlor, and lindane were determined for 4 populations of mosquito fish, Gambusia affinis affinis (Baird and Girard).  The results show resistance and cross-resistance in populations having past exposure to insecticides.  Evidence favoring a genetic basis for resistance is presented wherein toxicity levels remained constant in progeny of resistant fish which were reared in the absence of insecticides.
